5 Quick Ways To Improve Your Online Marketing.

1. Review Your Social Media Analytics

Marketing 101 is understanding where you are in your business and where you want to take your business with marketing efforts.

It is important to take a look at your social media analytics so you know where your numbers are and how you want to improve them.

How has each of your social media platforms performed? Have you seen an increase in audience size, comments, likes? Pay close attention to which posts have more engagement.

Focus/pivot your marketing efforts on producing content that your audience reacts to the most.

Find out which platforms your clients are spending more time on and WHEN they are spending time on social; start posting more on those platforms and those times.

Taking a look and understanding your social media analytics helps you see the fruits of your labour, it also makes you more accountable and makes goals more measurable.

2. Plan Your Social Media Content In Advance

Set up your content strategy and plan in advance. This is really important for a number of reasons; imagine having your content marketing for social media done in advance for the next 3 and 1/2 months? Imagine not having to worry and taking the guesswork out of figuring out what to post, not being overwhelmed?

Map out your content strategy and figure out what message you really want to share with your audience on your social media platforms and align them with the overall goals you have for your business.

Scheduling your social media posts ahead of time allows you to be intentional with the value you provide to your target market in order for them to want to work with you or buy your product and allows you the freedom to spend more time engaging with your community instead of figuring out what to post.

3. What Is Your Marketing Budget?

At the beginning of the year, you probably went through the exercise of mapping out what you plan on spending for your marketing efforts.

How much of that budget do you have left? What do you have planned for the rest of the year and figure out a budget for it?  This way you have a clear idea of what you can expect to be paying when it comes to marketing expenses.

For example, do you plan on hosting events or workshops, what are the related costs to promote online? Do you have social media campaigns scheduled, how many, and on what social media platforms? Do you outsource for graphic design, social media management, video production, copywriting, or email marketing?

Figure out your anticipated marketing budget. Hint: where have you seen the greatest return on investment thus far? Do more of that.

4. Incorporate More Video Marketing

Video content should be a central focus in online marketing strategies.

Did you know that you can incorporate more video content online without actually being in front of the camera?

There are several tools you can use so that you are not always front and centre. Turn your blogs into videos with Lumen5, turn a post into video or GIF using Canva Pro,  turn podcasts into video with Get Audiogram*.

But if you are marketing your business as a personal brand, you should embrace the camera! It is highly recommended that you do make an appearance online because people connect with people and you should learn to be more comfortable talking to the camera like it’s your best friend!

5. Keep A Pulse On Your Competition

Can I be honest? I’m not a fan of the word competition. I believe in abundance and that there are enough clients for all of us.

But for lack of a better word for now – take a pulse on what your competition is doing and see if there are opportunities for you to be inspired by some of the initiatives they’re taking.

No, I am not saying to be a copycat. But look at their newsfeeds, which posts are getting more comments and overall engagement? Are they using more video content? Are they using GIFs? Is their branding consistent?

Figure out what makes their audience engage and use it as inspiration for some of the things that you can be doing when you create your content online.
